2 November 2017

NORTHLAND INTER CLUB – SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER

The weather was perfect for golf on Saturday as 49 players took part in our annual Inter Club challenge with Northland. With the format returning to match play there were 24 matches to be played for the Karoro versus Kereru Trophy which Northland were defending.

As always the result went to the wire and Eric Heap playing in the last group claimed one point for his win in the last match on the course to give us a win by 12.5 points to 11.5 points.

Thanks to Rob and Gloria Hawkins, Bob Ash, Neil Stokes, Ian MacRury, Marshall Tua, Bob Crawley and Rob Green for gathering the fish that Eva and Lisha cooked for us all. The fish, chips and salad were well received by our visitors and hosts alike.

We look forward to defending the Trophy in the return match at Northland next year.

MEN’S AGM  – SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER

Neil Stokes was appointed Men’s Club Captain at the Men’s AGM on Sunday and he will be supported by the Men’s Committee; Wayne Jump (Vice Captain), Paul Truscott, John McKiernan and Clint Brljevich.

SHOOTOUT

With a couple of last minute withdrawals the Shootout field was reduced to 17 players which meant the final hole was number sixteen and instead of crossing the road to the tenth to get in the money you had to reach the eighth.

Despite some very good tee shots from the first tee the nerves set in with the approach shots and there was a tense three-man shootout to decide the first to fall by the wayside. There was plenty of nervous tension as the Shootout progressed.

Sheriff Merle Tipene set some mean chip-offs, putt-outs and bunker shots as there were ties at most holes to decide whose round had finished.

John McKiernan and Rob Green were the two most consistent throughout and they battled through to the sixteenth hole where Rob’s par was good enough to win the Shootout and the $150 top prize leaving John to collect $100 as runner up.

Thanks to those who stayed out to spectate and savour a beer or two as the Shootout reached it’s climax. Everyone who participated was positive about the event and keen to keep it in the programme next year.

FRIDAY HAGGLE – 3 NOVEMBER

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, as this Friday is the final Friday Medal Round of the year, and also the last round of the Jack Cheever’s Shield.
