LADIES GOLF:

Sunday Golf: Only 2 ladies played the medal round on Sunday and unfortunately neither were able to strike the Two’s or Hidden Hole kittys, but Shona Work was able to win $5 for the day with her score of 77.

Wednesday Golf: There were nearly as many 9-hole players (10) as 18-hole players (13) on Wednesday. The 9-Holers played a Club Medal & Putting round using their putts to work out the payouts. Winner of the Day was Ora Going (15), followed by Maria Moppett (16) and Lizzie Croft and Jenny Kidd (18).

The 18-Holers played a medal round. Scores of the day Alison Taylerson and Diane Hawke (76), Merle Mounsey (77), Jenny Mc Dowell and Dianne Norris (80) and Phyllis Crawley (81). The twos were drawn and the lucky winners were Dianne Hawke and Judy Taylor.

This Saturday 12 August will be the Mixed Club Day. This is a great way to meet and play social golf with fellow members. If you do not have a partner we will pair you up.

Cards in by 9.30am please for a 10am start.

AUGUST MONTHLY MEDAL & BUSTER AICKIN

The engraved Club beer glasses went to Clint Brljevich for his Gross 75 and Howard Mercer who scored a Net 64 for the second time this year.

In the Buster Aickin Dave Winslow built on his position after round one and sits on 138 for his two Net rounds, two shots ahead of Dave Scott. We now have to wait until the September Monthly Medal when the third round of the Buster Aickin is played.

MEN’S MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

With six players in the Senior Division, sixteen in the Intermediate, eight Juniors and four in D Grade, all entrants qualified for the Club Match Play Championships.

With the Finals scheduled for Sunday 10 September this means the only matches due to be played on Sunday 13 August will be the Intermediates. The Seniors and Juniors will play their first rounds Sunday 20 August while the D Grade qualifiers go straight to the Semi Finals the following week.

The draw for the First Round of the Intermediates is on Dot Golf.

ALTERNATE HAGGLE

Those not playing match play will play in a Stableford Haggle, with a prize available for the best two rounds of three over the next three weeks.

Cards in by 9.30am please for a 9.45am drawn start.

SHOOTOUT

The cut line has now moved to net 70 with eight players sitting on that score. There are thirteen players outside the cut so the September and October Monthly Medals are important dates for those wanting to qualify.

BAY OF ISLANDS STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – SATURDAY 19 AUGUST

We only have 10 entries for this event so far. If you plan to enter please put your name down in the Pro Shop, or advise Merle. Entries close on Wednesday next week.

LADIES GOLF

STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Just a reminder that the play dates have been changed to Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October. There is a notice in the ladies locker room if you missed the email sent on Monday.

Results from LGU & Putting Round 7

Wednesday 2 August, 6 Ladies braved the elements to play their round of golf. The winner of the haggle was Angela Zhou with Jenny McDowell and Jan Williams sharing second place. Jenny also managed a two on No. 10 to take that pot as well.

Sunday 6 August, 7 Ladies enjoyed good weather to play their round in. The winner of the haggle was Shona Work with Lynda Scott taking second place. The Hidden Holes (17 & 18) along with the two’s were jackpotted. Congratulations to Prue Jump who had only 27 putts which was the best result from both days.

Overall: Silver LGU Winner: Lynda Scott; Bronze 1Winner: Shona Work; Bronze II Winner: Jan Williams.

9-Hole Golf:

Wednesday 2 August, 6 ladies also braved the elements managing some very reasonable stablefords:

Winner of the haggle was Margaret Day, Ruth Robson was second and Maria Moppett third.

Golf Club House:

We have completed some needed maintenance on the house interior. A huge thank you, to all of you who gave your time and skill to help with this project. The house is being rented by our Green Keeper: Brendan Power and his partner Esther who moved in on Saturday.

JULY MONTHLY MEDAL & BUSTER AICKIN

Darren Markin won the Gross prize in the July Monthly Medal with a 78 last Sunday and Dave Winslow was the best Net with a 68 giving Dave a head start in the Buster Aickin Memorial Trophy going into Round Two next Sunday two shots clear of three chasing players; Richard Parmee, Eric Heap and Gary Forrest.

MEN’S MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER – SUNDAY 6 AUGUST

It is the August Monthly Medal round this Sunday 6 August, and the second round of the Buster Aickin Memorial Trophy.

It will also be the Qualifier for the Men’s Match Play Championships so we hope to see a good turnout.

Cards in by 9.30am please for a 9.45am drawn start.

SHOOTOUT

With only three qualifying rounds remaining the field is starting to take shape. The results are posted on the notice board. Currently 21 players are in with the cut off at net 71. There are some big names outside the cut off line so we would expect to see that score lower.

Last year’s winner Mike Andrew is on the current cut line alongside John McKiernan and Grant Hastings. How safe do you feel?

Plenty to play for with 33 entrants providing a good prize pool. Shane Murray is so confident; he hasn’t played in a Medal round yet!

Remember the Shootout takes place on Sunday 29 October following the Men’s AGM.

ECLECTIC

Updated results for the Eclectic are also on the notice board.

Darren Markin leads Division One, his 59 is two shots clear of Brian Stokes and Ian Garvey. In Division Two Grant Hastings also has a two shot lead sitting on 62 with Rob Green and Dave Scott chasing. Gary Forrest leads Division Three on 67 while Mike Kane’s hole-in-one on number 10 puts him in second place on 69.

Every Sunday round counts, so do you know which holes can help you reduce your eclectic score?

BAY OF ISLANDS STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – SATURDAY 19 AUGUST

We have also sent out the notice for this year’s Bay of Islands Stroke Play Championships.

In recent year’s we have struggled to get 40 players in the field and the feedback suggests that the 36 hole format is too much for many players at this time of year given the weather and ground conditions.

We were asked to introduce the event by Golf Northland so it could be used as a trial for their representative players and the 36-hole format meets their requirements.

In an attempt to attract a larger field this year we have introduced an 18-hole competition, which we hope will be of more interest to those players who either do not want to, or cannot play the two rounds in one day. Clint Brljevich has sponsored a separate Trophy for the best 18-hole Gross score in this format. Please give it a try.

Three trophies were up for grabs with Ann Hathaway winning Best Women’s Gross with an 83, Brian Stokes Men’s Best Gross with a 77 and the best Team of four Net scores going to Waitangi on 281.

INDIVIDUAL HANDICAP MATCH PLAY

Brian Stokes continued his recent run of form to beat Eric Heap 2 and 1 in the final of the Men’s Handicap Match Play despite a brave effort from Eric.

Feedback has been positive about the return of this event to the golf programme, and the introduction of the two divisions, so we plan to continue with it next year.

SUNDAY GOLF - 30 JULY

INDIVIDUAL HANDICAP MATCH PLAY

Two competitive division finals last Sunday with Brian Stokes prevailing in Division One, shooting 72 off the stick despite a final hole bogey and Eric Heap winning the Division Two title in a match that went to the last hole.

So the Individual Handicap Match Play will take place between Brian Stokes and Eric Heap on Sunday 23 July teeing off at 9.45am.

BAY OF ISLANDS CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIP – SATURDAY 22 JULY

We have 48 players listed to play on Saturday with two Men’s divisions and one Women’s division.

The draw has been made with a four-tee start at 10am.

There will be prizes in each division for the best gross, net and stableford.

Hopefully the weather will play ball and we can look forward to a good day of golf with members from Kaikohe, Kerikeri and Waitangi participating.

The draw is now on DotGolf and a copy is on the Sprig Bar door.

ALTERNATE HAGGLE SUNDAY 23 JULY

The alternate Stableford Haggle on Sunday will also be the final round in the Best 2 of 4 Rounds, so there will be prizes for the best players on the day and the winner of the series.

Richard Parmee retains the lead but strong performances last Sunday from Kevin Strawbridge, Dave Winslow, Miles Richards, Shane Murray and Paul Truscott bring them into contention this week.

Cards in by 9.30am please for a 9.45am drawn start.

LADIES GOLF

Give Merle a call if you have any.

Please confirm your team with Merle and please book your meal with Eva.

Food will be available from 5.30pm with the quiz starting at 7pm. The quiz cost remains unchanged at $5 per player.

INDIVIDUAL HANDICAP MATCH PLAY

We are getting down to the business end of the Handicap Match Play and Brian Stokes takes on Dave Hellens in the Division One final, while Eric Heap meets Dave MacNee in the final of Division Two.

Both look like tight matches, who will go forward into the overall Individual Handicap Match Play final next week?

The tee time has been booked for 9.45am from number one tee.

ALTERNATE HAGGLE SUNDAY 16 JULY

For those players no longer in the Match Play there will be an alternate Stableford Haggle on Sunday.

Cards in by 9.30am please for a 9.45am drawn start.

After two weeks of the best two of four Stableford rounds, so far only nine players have played in two rounds and there needs to be some improved scoring if the field is going to catch runaway leader Richard Parmee. Richard sits on 79 points, eleven points ahead of Mike Kane and Ian Garvey.

With two weeks to go, who is going to turn up and produce two rounds of 40plus points?

BAY OF ISLANDS CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIP – SATURDAY 22 JULY

The booking sheet is in the Pro Shop for the Bay of Islands Closed Championship.

This event has not been played since 2003 when it was last played at Okaihau. We were asked last year to revive the tournament which is only open to members of the Bay of Islands golf clubs; Kaikohe, Kerikeri, Okaihau, Rawene, Waitangi and Whangaroa.

The defending Champions are Hugh McKechnie of Kerikeri and our own Sue Whittaker. We have located the trophies, which go to the Gross winners in the Men’s and Women’s divisions.

We agreed to host this year and we hope to get support from our own members as well as the other clubs to justify reinstating the tournament for future years when it will rotate between the other clubs.

There will be a drawn start from 10am with Gross, Net and Stableford prizes. Men’s and Women’s Divisions will depend on the number of entries received by next Wednesday 19 July.

6 July 2017

Both teams expressed their appreciation for the course presentation and the home club hospitality.
