FRIDAY HAGGLE – Men’s Jack Cheevers Shield Competition – Best 15 Friday Stableford Scores over the Winter season.

John Halse has led the field for most of the season and after the final round today nothing has changed. John Halse 586, Kevin Strawbridge and Bob Ash finish with 576 points.

30 players were in the field today. The weather was beautiful with a little bit of wind although not as much as yesterday. The haggle today is based on medal and the winners were Paul Jarvis 67, Richard Burrows, Terry North, Gary Batey 69, John McKiernan, Paddy Flanagan 70, Trish Scott, Ian MacRury and Jim Aitchison 71.  Hidden Holes 3 & 16 was struck by Marsh Tua and Dan Seymour. Next Friday will be the first round in the Jack Dickey Trophy which will run through summer.

Twilight Golf

Twilight golf is a competition played over 9-holes each Thursday night starting from the No. 1 tee between 4pm - 5.30pm. It’s played over 20 weeks with the best 10 stableford rounds over the season winning the Men and Women’s competition.

Last night was Round 4 of the competition and it was pleasing to see 24 players turn up to play in some very windy conditions. Well done all!

It’s was the Ladies Bi-Annual trip to Kaitaia to play for the Spirit of the North Trophy against the Kaitaia Ladies. Waitangi had won the trophy of Kaitaia last year when the challenge was held played at Waitangi. Unfortunately it was a one way trip for the trophy this year because the ladies lost by 9 points but, all agreed it was a great day out anyway.

This Sunday is Closing Day for the Sunday competition. Register by 9.00am for a 9.15am tee-off.

Wednesday 7 November is Wednesday Closing Day. The ladies have planned a trip to Russell; more details will be available next week.

Congratulations to Isobel Jagger who was net runner-up in the Senior Division of the Women’s Champion of Champions which was held last Saturday at Kaitaia.

James Busby Results:

56 men turned out to play this Matchplay event in fantastic weather. The 72-hole competition was played in five divisions of 8 with all players playing a 36-hole final round. In Division 1, Kaden Neho, the 2017 winner, beat first time entrant, Nathan Jacoby of Waipu in the final to put his name for the third time on the James Busby Plate.

Other division winners were:

Division 2 Tamati Waka Nene Trophy: Jono Wilkie (Whangarei)  

Division 3 Sir George Grey Trophy: Steve Holford (Okaihau)

Division 4 Marion Du Fresne Trophy: Ian Garvey (Waitangi)

Division 5 Nine Pin Trophy: Geoff Megget (Okaihau)

There were two divisions of 8 in the 55+ section who played three rounds of 18-holes although Mark Bennett and Rob Green played 25 holes before Rob won on the 16th in their first match!!

TWILIGHT GOLF

Hopefully the weather will hold off until late evening tomorrow and allow us to play the first round of this year’s Twilight golf.

KERIKERI INTER CLUB, THE BATTLE OF BULL’S GORGE – SATURDAY 13 OCTOBER

We will be hosting Kerikeri on Saturday as we aim to win back the Inter Club Trophy.

Tee off will be from 10am and we will complete the draw on Friday.

We have plenty of women listed to play, as the event will also include the play of the Glad Mather annual match between the clubs.

But we need more men, so please enter your name on the list in the changing room.

 

NORTHLAND INTER CLUB – SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER

We will be travelling to Northland on Saturday 27 October.

Northland are always great hosts and their course is a great golfing challenge.

Both Men and Women are welcome to participate and entry lists will be posted in both locker rooms so please put your name down if you intend to play.
